THE MHS SCHOLARSHIP TRUST

Patron: Professor Kwong Lee Dow AO

Since it was established in 2008, the MHS Scholarship Trust has provided nearly two hundred students with assistance, including a number who struggle with their education because of having to care for a family member.

The Melbourne High School Scholarship Trust offers scholarships to support students (past and present) and current staff, through professional development opportunities. Scholarships, bursaries and prizes are awarded for:

  • Educational expenses (including extra-curricular activities) incurred whilst a student at MHS;
  • Study costs of overseas education institutions that are a component of a course at MHS;
  • Subsequent study in a tertiary course either in Australia or a recognised overseas institiution.
  • Current MHS staff are eligible to apply for costs involved in a recognised professional development course which would enhance and broaden their teaching methods to current students.

Donations to the MHS Scholarship Trust are tax-deductible.

THE MHS FOUNDATION HEALTH PROMOTION TRUST

Patron: Professor Ian Gust AO

Boys feel a need to fit in and connect with peers, but at the same time they are trying to develop a sense of self and forge their own path

Why is it important?
Adolescence is a time of discovery and development; physically, cognitively and emotionally. Boys feel a need to fit in and connect with peers, but at the same time they are trying to develop a sense of self and forge their own path. Many of them see academic success as a pathway to a promising future but the pressure to achieve can sometimes result in stress, anxiety and depression.

MHS recognises that some of the boys need extra help, but the Government does not provide funding for most of the student wellbeing programs and services. The Health Promotion Trust aims to raise funds so that students at MHS can get the best support possible during their school years and the develop the mental resilience and healthy life habits that will stand them in good stead for the future.

In 2015, the Health Promotion Trust will focus on raising funds for a Health Promotion Hub at MHS. Student Wellbeing and services will be centralised. Programs and activities including classes, seminars, mentoring and group counselling will be delivered from a specialist centre geared to fostering health and wellbeing.

Donations to the MHS Foundation Health Promotion Trust are tax-deductible.
